Hurghada’s Got Talent 2010

The show “Hurghada’s Got Talent” took place for the first time in Hurghada – at the New Marina Boulevard on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of July. The main organizer, initiator and inspirer of this event were Ms Sue with her Busy Bees British Nursery School. She said: “The idea was first thought of because my niece Emma took part in a charity show in the UK and I thought it would be nice to do a show for charity in Hurghada. I have lived in Hurghada for 15 years and think every expat living here should give something back to the local community. I do collect for local charities and an orphanage in Luxor about 2 to 3 times a year. I thought this would be an entertaining way to bring some community spirit into Hurghada and raise some money for charity at the same time. We approached Mr Namazi Mekkawi the General Manager of Hurghada Marina and he was very happy for us to hold it in the Marina. He sponsored us with the sound and light system. We were given a date by the Marina and we only had 6 weeks to put the show together. It was difficult to get sponsorship in such a short time but we managed to get most of the prize money by sponsorship and some prizes to hold a raffle for charity.”

66 persons entered the competition and after 2 audition days 19 contestants were chosen for the contest at the Marina. The official judges were Omar, musician, owner of Fiore Fiore, Jono, musician, owner of Yacht, Ahmed, singer & musician, Helen Ellis, former dancer and dance teacher, Ian Thompson, Joyce Willows. Guest judge: Hazem Othman.
Only 10 performances got through to the final on July 25th.The Judges had a very tough decision and were deliberating for quite some time. While the judges were deliberating the crowd was entertained by Sarah Wood and a new Lebanese Dance Troup, but the biggest surprise was a spontaneous performance by Mr. Mohamed (Busy Bees British Nursery School). Lastly due to still needing more time for the judge’s decision he began to dance to entertain the waiting crowd and got the most applause of the night! Finally they chose the top 3.

1st Place was given unanimously by the audience and the judges to Yehia Mohamed, aged 19. A self taught left-handed Guitarist (Electro Guitar). He won 3000 EGP cash prize, a 6 month VIP Card from Red Sea Style, a Dinner for 2 at B’s in the Marina and a regular booking in Limeys.

2nd Place went to Ibrahim Mohamed aged 26. A local Singer. He won 1000 EGP cash prize, a 6 month VIP Card from Red Sea Style, a Cook door voucher worth 50 EGP.

3rd Place went to Sabirova Dance School. 500 EGP cash prize, a 6 month VIP Card from Red Sea Style, a Cook door voucher worth 50 EGP, and 6 dancers were presented with a Cinema Ticket from Senzo Cinema.

Mrs Madiha from the charity Gemei-ed Kafel al Yatiem was present on the final night. The Social Services Department in Hurghada were in attendance for all 3 nights . On the Final Night a senior representative from the Ministry of Social Services in Cairo came to watch the show.
Mr Mohamed Amar, the Senior Red Sea Representative from Hurghada Social Services Department presented the prizes.
All the items and the money collected were delivered to Gemei-ed Kafel al Yatiem, and the Social Services Department.  2150 EGP was raised from raffle ticket sales. If people wish to make donations, these can be brought to Busy Bees British Nursery School. A DVD of “Hurghada’s Got Talent 2010” is on sale and for each one sold out of the 100 EGP, 50 EGP will be given to charity.
Hurghada's Got Talent in 2011 will be held in two separate contests: one for under 16s and one for over 16s.
