Ride for Egypt
On April 24, 2011 Jörg and Gabriela Reinemann, a lovely couple in their mid-forties, arrived to Hurghada, met by their daughter, granddaughter and son-in-law, Ahmed, who coordinated with the Red Sea Bulletin to have a friendly session, around the pool in Kawthar district’s Cortoba building, where the Red Sea Bulletin offices are situated.
Their ride was with the purpose of celebrating the new Egypt, and paying respects to the great country and its people, who have refused the oppression and bring back their rights for a better life more free and prosperous.
On their huge well-equipped motorbikes the couple rode all the way from Germany through Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia and Montenegro (part of former Yugoslavia), Bulgaria, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, to Egypt through Nuweiba from Aqaba, driving all the way across Sinai to Suez down to Hurghada on the coastline of the Red Sea, riding almost 6000 Km in 14 days. They dedicated the ride to be not just to but for Egypt.
The Reinemanns – together for 30 years - have frequented Egypt tens of times, but had to work on the plan for this special ride for a whole year gathering maps, preparing routes and acquiring their gear as well as visas, necessary procedures and insurances. They made no advance bookings, staying mostly in hotels throughout the route, wherever possible.
In their ride for Egypt they had many different experiences, from difficult riding weather conditions in Syria where they had to speed up to 150 km/hr while they tiled to the side in order to deficit the wind effect. In another incident they were robbed while parked in a locked garage. They found that the people- in general- were friendly and helpful, extremely courteous in Jordan, Turkey and Syria, and thought that driving through Bulgaria was the least pleasant road conditions and dealing with people, on the other hand, they found roads in Turkey, Jordan and Sinai extremely good. They were also quite impressed with the hospitality in Jordan and Syria.
The ride for Egypt was very much appreciated by most people on their route, in support of the Egyptian people and their stand to rid themselves from oppression and stagnation and be free to go forward towards improving their lives in all possible aspects.
Celebrating their arrival to Hurghada, drinks were served after the interview.
