Location:
16 KM East of Hamata
N24 15.158 E35 32.382

Name:
Abu Galawa Small
The name is inspired by the shape of the reef. The word Galawa in Arabic means ‘Pool’ from the formation of the reefs which enclose a pool like shape between them.

Points of attraction:

  • Wreck
  • Coral Garden
  • Interesting landscape

Marine Life:
You will find a number of different types of fishes but the ‘real stars’ are the hard corals, which are in excellent condition, displaying an area of stunning colours.

Currents and Water Movements:
There is not much current or water movements, except for some surface currents that move from the north east to the south west.
At certain times of the year when we get extreme tidal movements, you might expect some unpredictable currents; however these are not too strong to swim against.

The Dive:
An excellent shallow, gentle, noon or afternoon dive, which is started and finished from the hard boat.
It is possible in almost all weather conditions, except in rare cases, when the north wind is extreme.
From the starting point on the map follow the mooring line, going straight to the bottom at 21 meters, keeping the reef to the right hand side and head in a westerly direction, all the way until you reach the small wreck.
Hover around the wreck for a short while and then start heading back in an easterly direction, keeping the reef to the left hand side and try to cross in the area between the pillar and the reef, while maintaining a depth of 6 meters.

Go through the passage at 4-6 meters, all the way, until you get to the crack at the northern end of the passage which leads to the pool located between the three reefs at17 meters.
Tour around the coral garden, and then come back through the passage all the way, to end the dive at the mooring line.

  • Small tip: At the end of the dive, carry out your safety stop on top of the two pillars located south of the reef and enjoy all the small marine life that lives there.
